Wood Restoration
Too many people spend countless time and money building beautiful wooden decks and sadly watch them deteriorate because their wood is unprotected from the devastating forces of weather. Rain, hurricanes, and even morning dew are quickly absorbed by unprotected wood causing it to soften and swell.
The Florida sun's heat causes drying which makes the wood shrink. These cycles of wet and dry, swelling and shrinking, cause wood to warp, split, crack, and check. All of these lead to premature wood life and expensive repairs.
Unprotected wood is also subject to mildew and algae growth, rot, and decay, surface graying and degradation from ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, and insect attack from a variety of sources.
Colonial Custom Painting is a Restore-A-Deck Certified Contractor, so we are experts in taking care of all your wood care needs, including fences, decks, patios, etc. Restore-A-Deck cleaner is a specially formulated two-part deck cleaning system that can give your contractor grade results while keeping the process simple for do-it yourselfers.

Why Your Deck Looks Bad
Moisture, pollen, and the sun all wreak havoc on wood. Left unchecked, this assualt will cause your deck to warp, gray and become a haven for mold growth. Decks and fences are too expensive to replace, so most people apply some type of finish to protect the wood. Here lies the problem.. Improperly prepping the wood or using the wrong type of wood stain sets that finish up for failure. Your wooden deck or fence is a big investment. Properly cleaning it will extend its useful life and make it a source of pride for both you and your family. Whether the wood is pressure-treated, cedar, or ipe, sticking to a scheduled maintenance program will insure your deck stays in top shape. A high quality cleaner and regular refinishing will protect your investment from the elements.

4 Myths About Deck Cleaning and Staining
Myth #1: Cleaning and staining a deck is not something I can do myself.
While it is true the restoration process can be labor intensive, what makes it more difficult is using the substandard products available at most home centers. Deck cleaning should be performed as a two step process. Read more about how professionals perform deck cleaning.
Myth #2: Decks have to be stained every year to stay looking good.
For most wood species this again boils down to performing the proper prep and using quality deck staining products. Certain types of wood will need to have yearly maintenance performed on them. These decks include hardwood varieties such as ipe (ironwood), garapa gold, massaranduba, mahogany, and purple heart among others. For these exotic woods we offer WoodZotic premium formulation hardwood stain and seal.
Myth #3: You need a pressure washer to properly clean and prep.
While a pressure washer is a great tool to speed the cleaning of your wood project, Restore-A-Deck is designed to use with a simple deck brush and garden hose. If you own or have access to a power washer, read some pressure washing tips here.
Myth #4: New construction does not need to be cleaned before staining.
When a deck undergoes construction it is subjected to dirty feet as well as exposure to mold spores. In addition there is often a phenomenon known as mill glaze which will prevent deck stains from penetrating the wood. A two step cleaning process is as crucial to new construction as it is to older, graying decks.
